NHF #5: The Critics Rave! "Neutral!" "Inoffensive!"

"Unfortunately, the Sunday Comics-style humor is a totally neutral and inoffensive brand of comedy; it’s just not that clever or funny."

Oh, well. Maybe #6 is better.

  1. Huhn? "Sunday Comics-style humor"? I must start reading the Sunday comics again!

  2. I'll take "Sunday Comics-style" to be, not a pejorative, but an acknowledgment that NHF is in the same league as Winsor McCay, George Herriman, Elzie Segar, Chester Gould, Charles Schulz, and Bill Watterson.

Also, since the stories he mentions are on page 2 and page 3, I'm free to assume the critic was too bored to read any farther.

  3. Similarly, the synthesis of my own NHF review is not going well, as I had hoped to compare the entire series to a cross between Chick tracts, Bazooka Joe wrapper strips, and LSD blotter tabs. Unfortunately, it turns out that the series is more like foreign coloring books, laser-printer test-patterns, and vintage Tijuana Bibles. Excelsior!
